Richard Rodgers, Principal Consultant
Mr. Rodgers has over 20 years experience in project and business management, mechanical design, medical device and instrumentation, polymer and fabric coating processes,
physical testing and computer modeling of dynamically loaded viscoelastic (rubbery) materials,
data acquisition, product development, and R&D and Technical Service management.
Richard Rodgers has served as a Project Coordinator for the Worcester Polytechnic Institute
Bioengineering Institute (BEI). He was responsible for developing relationships with potential
BEI Members, from large companies, to startups, to individuals, and provides project guidance
for BEI Members in working with BEI research staff.
Through his accreditation by the Institute for Independent Business, Richard can bring to clients his expertise and that of thousands of senior executives from around the world. These Executive Associates, typically former CEOs and business owners and managers, include leading experts in all aspects of business.
He recently worked at ABIOMED as Mechanical Project Lead. There he was part of the effort
to bring the AbioCor Total Implantable Replacement Heart through clinical trials to eventual
commercialization. He led and worked with a team of Mechanical Engineers to enhance both the
implantable components of the artificial heart, its external patient and doctor interfaces,
and support equipment.
Education
Mr. Rodgers received both a B.S. Degree and a M.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering Design from
Worcester Polytechnic Institute. His thesis work, conducted at WPI's Center for Holographic
Studies, demonstrated the value in combining finite element analysis with the mathematics of laser
holography to greatly enhance the accuracy of computer modeling results. He studied business
practice through MIT's Sloan Executive Management Training and WPI's Program Management Certification Program.
Also, Mr. Rodgers has served as Chair of the
the ASME Boston Section Executive Committee and lead efforts to provide outplacment support for ASME Boston Section and has been a member of the ASME
2004 National Nominating Committee.
